Itinerary

The Amalfi Coast runs along Italy's south-west shoreline, where postcard seaside towns sit among green farmland. On this walk you'll follow ancient stone stairways, limestone cliff paths and old mule tracks that connect Campania's villages, taking in Italian landmarks from Ravello to Positano and Capri. Each evening winds down at our rustic agriturismo, with organic wine and farm-to-table cooking.
-
You'll land at Naples International Airport, then ride up to San Lazzaro, a hilltop village perched at 650 metres. Once you've settled into the Luna d'Agerola agriturismo, the afternoon is free to stroll the lanes and find your bearings. That evening brings the welcome dinner, where your hosts cook homemade local dishes — a relaxed way to meet the group and ease into the trip.

A private bus carries you up to Bomerano, set high on the Agerola Plateau. From there you walk back down to San Lazzaro, a gentle 5-kilometre route through the Pino Gorge that runs about 2 to 3 hours. Coastal views stay with you the whole way, though expect some rocky ground and one short, steep stretch. You'll be back by early afternoon with time to explore the village. Later, an optional cooking class in making mozzarella and pasta rounds off the day with dinner — a good mix of walking, downtime and, if you fancy it, a hands-on turn in the kitchen.

An early bus brings you to Amalfi for the ferry across to Capri — or from Sorrento if you're travelling on or after 28 October. On the island you'll walk through lively streets, past grand houses and kitchen gardens, out towards the coast where bougainvillea gives way to limestone cliffs and wide views. There's time to look around Capri town or to visit Emperor Tiberius' palace and Villa Lysis before the ferry returns you to the mainland later in the day.

- Tour Leaders are quite simply the glue that holds our tours together. They are chosen for their travel experience and people skills and are thoroughly trained by Explore, widely acknowledged as some of the best training in the industry. A Tour Leader's ultimate aim is to ensure everyone is well looked after and have a fantastic trip. They are there to ensure that the tour logistics run smoothly, that health and safety is adhered to and provide comprehensive briefings at the beginning and throughout the tour.
-
- A key facet of our responsible approach to tourism is that we encourage our groups to eat in local restaurants that prepare locally grown food. We give customers choice as to their meals and do not use rather bland and impersonal hotel restaurants or all- inclusive options

- The following excursions and/or activities are usually available and may be arranged locally. Estimated costs are provided below for guidance only, are on a per person basis unless shown otherwise, and may depend on the number of participants. Prices quoted are correct as of the date these tour notes were originally issued but may change at any time due to currency fluctuations. Please note: These activities are booked and paid for locally and do not form part of your Explore holiday contract.
- Please note all below optionals need to be paid for locally in Euros cash which can be withdrawn from the ATM in the village.
- Herculaneum and Pompeii - Private return bus transfer is €70 per person (payable to tour leader, arranged once on tour). Please note that we need a minimum of 6 people to operate this excursion. If there are less than 6 it will be slightly more money depending on the number of people. Site tickets must be bought in advance - this is to limit the number of visitors each day. You can buy them yourself using your smartphone or opt for fast-track tickets outlined below where the local Pompeii Guide reserves everything on your behalf. Basic entrance fees are: €16 for Herculaneum and €23 for Pompeii (total €39). Although more expensive, we recommend a fast-track ticket for €65 per person: this includes the entrance fees to both sites, skip-the-line access, headphones and a 2-hour private tour at each site with a locally qualified historical Guide. You pay this to the local guide in cash when you arrive at the first site. Please note the guide requires a min of 6 people to run a guided tour. Once you have confirmed your booking with your Explore leader this is non-refundable, as the Pompeii guide will buy your tickets in advance.

The description of the trip was misleading. " Walking tour' ?What a joke! I am from Colorado and belong to a very prominent hiking club. These hikes were very challenging. Hundreds of uneven rock steps. Up and down everyday/.
-
Anna
Great people, great guide, good walks. Really enjoyed every day.
-
Diane
I thought Ravello and the day spent in the nature preserve were unexpectedly lovely. The opportunity to see Pompeii with such a knowledgeable guide was great. The Path of the Gods delivered the beautiful experience as hoped.
-
Denise

Walk of the Gods and an excellent tour guide - Pete Myers
-
Jennifer
Too many to list! The Path of the Gods was probably the stand out trip
-
Barbara
Our guide Pete was fabulous - he was very observant and ensured each one of us got what we needed, educated us on the beautiful Amalfi coast and shared stories about the people and culture. The hosts at the Agri Tourismus were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The walks were challenging and fun through beautiful scenery. Day trip to Pompeii and Herculean was fascinating and our guide, Stefano, did a great job. All the private transfers navigated the roads well and got us to our destinations safely.
-
Lillian
Learning to make pasta at the Agriturismo was enjoyed by everyone and helped the group to get to know each other. We all appreciated being in a small group with Stefano as our excellent guide in Pompey and Herculaneum. Travelling by ferry to Capri gave us an opportunity to appreciate the views of the Amalfi coast from the sea. Especially Positano which we walked to on The Walk of the Gods on our last day. Ravello was indeed a hidden gem. Thank you for including it in the itineray.
-
Julie
The walk in the forest was beautiful - all the walks were well-paced and well led. We enjoyed the pasta making and the pizza evening. Hard to pick highlights as it was all so good
-
Robin
The tour leader, Pete Myers, was great. Informed, competent, caring, easy to relate to. We liked the model of travelling out from a base and returning. Linking it to a farm (agri-tourism) allowed us to more closely step into another world, versus the often more superficial bus travelling around. It was great to be active, not passive. The tour attracted a great group of fellow travellers and we enjoyed mixing with them.
